On the Segways, get set, go!

When I received the invitation to present a guided Segways tour through our beautiful Celle, I was a little shocked at first. I was supposed to be racing through the city of Celle with this “vehicle” that I really wasn’t very familiar with ?! Isn’t that dangerous, or isn’t it even possible to injure yourself ?! Let me put it this way: I was not afraid, but very respectful!

Who or what is this ominous Segway?

For all those who have no idea what a Segway is – don’t worry, I wasn’t really sure either – here is a brief explanation of a very well-known online dictionary: “The Segway Personal Transporter (Segway PT, formerly HT for Human Transporter) is an electrically powered one-person means of transport with only two wheels on the same axle, between which the person being transported stands and which is kept in balance by means of an electronic drive control. ” Let’s go!

Theory meets practice – the Segway driver’s license

Ok, so we have sorted that out! Let’s come to the day of the tour and our starting point on the Celler Stechbahn. With a somewhat queasy feeling in the stomach area, but still full of euphoria, I met our tour guides, our Mayor of Celle and the two Segway guides including the assembled Celle press.

After a short, but very intensive explanation of the (hoverboards)Segway, in which I was allowed to serve as a guinea pig – um, thanks again for the brief moment of shock – all participants were allowed to take their “Segway driving license” in slow turtle mode and with their rental helmets on. This includes correct steering and driving as well as safe mounting and dismounting. It should be said here that you don’t have to worry about the balance abilities of the human brain, rather you have to switch them off almost completely when riding a Segway. Nevertheless, please pay attention to the traffic signs and do not fidget too much, by the way, you don’t need a photo. What luck!

Segway driver’s license passed – let’s go!

So, turned off the turtle mode and then we started. Incidentally, the Segways has a top speed of 20 km / h, which you don’t necessarily have to drive. In the city, this is hardly possible anyway, because you get involved with the other participants and therefore automatically drive slower. Our little trial tour first led us to the former seat of the Guelphs, the Celle Castle. A brief glimpse into history, then and now and on, the tour of discovery goes around the castle and its dreamlike park. Out of the park and quickly over the traffic lights, of course only when the light is green, we speed past the Celler Congress Union and turn into Bullenberg.

History of Celle – The French Garden by Segway
Shortly afterwards we drive through a very special piece of Celle history, the French Garden . In the 17th century the wife of the then Duke Georg Wilhelm commissioned Eleonore d’Olbreuse to create this historical garden monument. Even on this somewhat cool, foggy March morning, the special charm of this wonderful park unfolded in front of me.
At the end of the Lindenallee, just before you almost left the garden(segways uk), we stopped at another attraction: the LAVES Institute for Apiculture . My recommendation to definitely take part in a guided tour to learn more about beekeeping.

It was very short, but so beautiful!
After further, interesting information about the history of Celle, we drove to the last point of our little tour, the New Town Hall . The neo-Gothic brick building with its 181 meters length and a ridge height of 25 meters cannot be overlooked. Well, this is where our small but nice Segway tour ended. Incidentally, the actual guided tour takes just under 3 hours. Along the way, in addition to historical insights into the city’s history, the city guides also show a lot of the beautiful surrounding area.

Want a conclusion ?!
So, one thing was clear to everyone at the end of the tour: “We want to drive again and of course we will recommend the Segway tour.” It’s great how quickly you can get involved in the new, somewhat different driving experience and not give up the Segway at all in the end want. That’s how it was for me and our Lord Mayor – I think it’s totally great that you understand the technique of driving a Segway so easily. Sometimes you get cocky and drive backwards forbidden or leave the group to take some funny pictures – sorry Alex, but that has to be the case with a blogger! My next tour is already booked! On a sunny spring weekend, (Hoverboards UK)when nature shows its most beautiful side, for me it means again: On the Segways, get set, go – the slightly different Celle city tour! Will we see you ?!
